We work with clients struggling with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, career, stress, grief, life transition, social anxiety, self esteem, blended family struggles, perfectionism, LGBTQ issues, low self-esteem, mood disorders, and personality disorder. The first session allows you and your counselor an opportunity to begin to see if working together will be helpful to you. We will invite you to discuss what brings you into counseling and what you hope to gain from the experience. There will be time for questions, and for you to gain an understanding of how our counselor approach counseling. Since each person is unique, what takes place in the session is also unique.

There are great benefits with the counseling process, yet it can be an uncomfortable experience. You may experience intense emotions resulting from a session. These feelings are normal and do not indicate that counseling is not working. Discomfort is sometimes necessary to create the outcome you desire. Your counselor will work with you through such occasions and we hope that you share these experiences with your counselor. Your counselor’s focus is to help you achieve greater happiness and fulfillment as we work toward your goals.

As counselors we have an ethical and legal obligation to maintain your privacy and confidentiality. This applies exceptions in some situations, such as if you report danger to yourself or to others, child abuse, elder abuse and dependent adult abuse. In your first session we will review these instance, and we can discuss them should you have questions or concerns.

Great! We welcome your questions. Please contact us at (206)257-3810 or by email at info@goldenwestcounseling.com
